How can we help?
Most questions are answered below. If yours isn't, email info@heindewilde.com — a real person reads every message, usually within two working days. Mention your device and system version if something isn't working.
Frequently asked
⌥Space doesn't open the panel.
Another app has probably claimed the shortcut first — Summon shows a notice when that happens. Pick a different one in Summon → Settings → Shortcuts. Spotlight, Raycast and Alfred are the usual suspects.
Pressing ↩ copies the item instead of pasting it.
To paste into another app, Summon needs the Accessibility permission. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and turn on Summon. If it's already on but pasting still fails, remove it with the – button and add it again.
Summon uses this permission for one thing: sending a single ⌘V to the app you were in. It does not read your screen or watch your typing.
How do I save something from Finder?
Select the files, right-click, and choose Quick Actions → Add to Summon. You can also drag files onto the panel or the library, or press ⌥⇧S to save whatever is selected in any app.
My items aren't showing up on my other devices.
Check that each device is signed in to the same Apple Account and that Summon is allowed to use iCloud in Settings → [your name] → iCloud. Large files can take a while on the first sync.
Usage history — what you use most, and where — deliberately stays on each device, so the ranking on your iPhone learns separately from your Mac.
I forgot my PIN or passphrase.
If Face ID or Touch ID unlock is set up, use it to get in, then choose a new PIN in Settings. Otherwise, sensitive items cannot be recovered — by design, nobody else holds the key. Everything you did not mark sensitive is unaffected.
Can Apple read my library?
Items you mark sensitive — or everything, with “Encrypt everything” on — are encrypted with a key Apple never sees. Other items sync like the rest of your iCloud data. The privacy policy explains exactly what goes where.
Why do I have to set my PIN separately on each device?
Your vault key syncs between devices, but the PIN protecting it on each one does not — and neither does the count of wrong guesses. That way, someone guessing on one device can't use another to get around the cooldown. If you change your PIN on one device, the others keep theirs until you change it there too.
Is Summon really free? What's the catch?
Yes, on every device, with no subscription, no ads and no tracking. It's an independent project, and the source is on GitHub under the AGPL-3.0 licence.
What does Summon need to run?
macOS 26 on the Mac, and iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 on iPhone and iPad.
